Thumbs Up, Old Friend

By the time Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert went national with their show in the 1980s, I’d already been watching them for years as movie critics on local TV in Chicago. In my many interviews and discussions with Siskel, I learned about how to watch a movie, what to look for and how to convey that to the listening and viewing audience. And he was gracious with his time, always inviting me up to his office during our many Cubs-Cards weekends, as you can see in this picture from 1988 with me and Mike Bush. The Oscars are this weekend…and I miss my buddy, Gene Siskel.

Monkey Business

Going to the zoo this weekend? Wanna get some good footage of the monkeys and other ape-like creatures? Here's how to do it. Some guy used the front-facing camera on his iPhone to film monkeys up close because they were using it like a mirror. Then he went a step further. He drilled a hole in the middle of an actual mirror, just big enough for his iPhone camera to film through, then he put it up against the glass at the orangutan enclosure, and they loved it. (This is from the same guy who came up with the cool iPad Halloween costume that made it look like he had a hole in his body.)

Aliens... In Hollywood?

Tuesday night in Hollywood there was mass hysteria over what some people thought was a rash of UFO sightings.  Actually, it was just the Navy Seals skydiving over to the premiere of the new movie, “Act Of Valor” on Sunset Blvd.  The P.O.V. visual of Hollywood at night is fantastic!
